We were invited to the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences to discuss potential collaboration on the project "Russia's First Mars Base — the Ural Mars Observatory."
The Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a leading organization in space medicine and biology, where for decades they have been developing technologies to prepare humans for space missions, creating life support systems, and studying human behavior in extreme conditions.
It was here that one of the most famous experiments, "Mars-500," was conducted, in which participants were isolated for 520 days, simulating a flight to Mars.
The Institute also hosts the international SIRIUS project, which, together with international partners (including NASA), studies the biomedical and psychological aspects of long-term space missions.
